Girlguiding Greater London Kent held their own X Factor style talent show on Saturday 3rd March 2007 called Guiding Star. Guiding Star is an exclusive X Factor style competition for ten to 25-year-old members of Girlguiding UK. 14 acts took part in the competition at the Priory School, Orpington. A mixture of groups and solo acts took part.
The girls who were selected at County level are now going on to the Region finals to be held in April/May. The finalists from Region go onto the national finals and the winner will get to appear in front of 10,000 Guides at the BIG GIG 2007!

Lisa has a B.Mus hons degree with a major in performance, she plays several instruments, sings and has taught singing and dancing to 6-16 year olds. Our final judge Lucy trained at Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts London. Teaches singing, dance and drama and runs her own theatre schools in Kent. She made her West End musical debut at 13, and has worked continuously since. Credits include Elizabeth in Whistle down the Wind, Christine in Phantom of the Opera and Eva Peron in Evita in the European tour of “The Best of Broadway”. Wendy in Peter Pan at Churchill theatre, Bromley, and several pantomimes as Principal girl.
Girls were allowed to pick a song in any style they wanted – the competition was open to all kinds of music. We had everything from an acapela version of ‘I will always love you’ made famous by Whitney Houston to an energetic version of Shania Twain’s ‘Man I Feel Like A Woman’ and two versions of High School Musicals ‘Breaking Free’.
The competition was split into two age categories: ten to 16-year-olds and 16 to 25-year-olds. We had 4 winning places; they went to Stingrays, Christine Roberts, Sarah Caddock and Emma Pearson. They all go on to the next round.
